Pacing Verdict
The screenplay's pacing is generally strong, with excellent momentum in the battle sequences (Toulon, Austerlitz, Waterloo) and the rapid-fire political maneuvering of the coup. However, the middle acts suffer from noticeable drag, particularly in the repetitive domestic scenes of Napoleon and Josephine's marital strife and the extended, languid passages of Josephine's social life, which disrupt the forward drive. The 5-act structure is respected, but the energy is uneven, with Act 2 and parts of Act 4 feeling overlong compared to the crisp, efficient storytelling of Acts 1 and 5.
