Jack Crawford wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Pacing Verdict

The screenplay exhibits masterful pacing, with relentless narrative momentum that never sacrifices clarity or emotional depth. Its rhythm is a perfect dance of taut, rapid-fire dialogue exchanges (particularly between Clarice and Lecter) and deliberate, tension-filled pauses, creating an inexorable forward drive. The scene-to-scene flow is meticulously engineered, balancing investigative procedure with visceral horror and character revelation, ensuring no section drags while crucial information is delivered with maximum efficiency. The final act accelerates into a breathless, terrifying climax before allowing a necessary, chilling denouement.
